Grief & Loss Therapy | The Meridian
While grief is a natural response to loss, it doesn't always resolve on its own. For many people, it becomes complicated, prolonged, or deeply intertwined with every day life. You wonder why you continue to anticipate a phone call from your loved one who has passed. You feel guilty on days when the grief feels lighter, as if moving forward means leaving them behind. You notice waves of sadness that arrive without warning, even on days that seemed fine.
At The Meridian, we work with clients navigating bereavement, complicated grief, anticipatory grief, ambiguous loss, and grief related to trauma or interpersonal violence. No two experiences of grief are alike and our approach reflects that.
We draw from a range of therapeutic modalities including EMDR, psycho-education (neuroscience behind grief), grief focused CBT & ACT, and attachment-based care to help clients process their loss. We work collaboratively with the client to process the grief alongside the reality of the loss, supporting the client in honoring their connection to the deceased while gradually adapting to life without them.
Common experiences that bring people to grief therapy include:
Death of a spouse, parent, child, or close friend
Pregnancy or infant loss
Divorce, separation, or the end of a significant relationship
Estrangement from family members
Loss of identity following a major life transition
Grief tied to trauma, abuse, or a difficult childhood
Anticipatory grief while supporting a loved one with a terminal illness
